Holistic Management & Grazing

Join Greg Judy in this comprehensive workshop where he guides participants through the essentials of establishing a profitable holistic grazing operation from the ground up. Gain valuable insights into proper grazing treatments, soil enhancement techniques, drought mitigation strategies, optimizing animal performance, and implementing cost-effective water management practices.

By adopting a holistic approach, we can align our farming practices with the rhythms of nature. Through holistic management grazing, we have the opportunity to regenerate our soils, rejuvenate watersheds, and enhance our livelihoods. By integrating land, livestock, wildlife, and people into a unified system, we can create a thriving farm landscape that not only generates financial returns but also contributes to carbon sequestration and the preservation of ecosystem services vital for our well-being.

At Green Pastures Farm in central Missouri, Greg and Jan Judy exemplify the principles of holistic, high-density planned grazing. They pasture a variety of animals, including cows, cow/calf pairs, bred heifers, horses, and stockers, using innovative grazing techniques. Greg advocates for utilizing fallow land through leasing, employing high-density grazing methods, and leveraging the livestock of others. Since transitioning to Holistic High-Density Grazing three years ago, the results have been remarkable.

The Judys’ approach eschews the use of lime, fertilizer, seeding, chemicals, or heavy equipment. Instead, they prioritize increasing animal density, trampling plants to create a natural litter bank, optimizing animal performance, and allowing for ample grass recovery periods between grazing cycles. This focus has led to a surge in plant diversity, enhanced grass quantity year after year, and increased profitability—all while fostering environmental regeneration.
